Who Packed My Parachute?: An Inspirational True Story

Who Packed My Parachute?: An Inspirational True Story magnify

Charles Plumb was a brave American pilot of Jet Fighter Plane. He was a brave soldier and a dare devil pilot. During the Vietnam war, he used to take off his jet fighter plane from 'Kiti Hawk' warship and go to Vietnam to deliver the death. He flew in the similar fashion for 75 times successfully.

On the 76Th times, when he was on way back to his warship, a surface to air missile hit at the bottom of his plane. Charles plumb jumped off the plane using a parachute. He was caught by enemy soldiers. He was imprisoned. He was tortured a lot during that time. He was freed after 6 years. At present he delivers lectures about his experiences of war and imprisonment in America.

One day, when Charles and his wife were sitting in a restaurant, a man sitting beside, came up to him and asked, "Aren't you Mr. Charles plumb? Didn't you took off from 'Kiti Hawk' warship for bombarding? And your pane was hit by a missile, right?"

"Absolutely!!" surprised Charles asked," How do you know all the things in details? Did you attend my lecture?"

"No" that man replied, "I have packed your parachute! I hope it had served you properly."

"Oh! It did. Because of that parachute I am sitting here alive otherwise..." Charles was grateful, "thank you very much."

"Oh! There is nothing to thanks. It was my duty. OK see you later." told the man plainly and shaking his hand they parted.

That night Charles could not sleep. The whole night he kept thinking if he had ever noticed that man on the warship being a proud and successful jet plane pilot. How often had he passed by me on the ship and had I ever greeted him Good Morning? I had never noticed him although we were on the same ship. What could have happened if he hadn't packed the parachute properly? Wasn't that man packing an opportunity of saving a soldier's life each time when he was silently packing the parachutes in the cellar of the ship? Wasn't he packing for those soldier whom he even didn't know?

After this incident, he always asked in his lecture, "Do you know who packed my parachute?"

Don't you think that we have to use plenty of parachutes during our life time viz. physical parachute, mental parachute, emotional parachute and many others? Do we ever know who have packed them for us? Have we ever thanked them? Do we ever congratulate those who do something good to us or to others? Let's always keep one thing in our mind during our routine life...Who packs our parachute?
